What You’ll Learn

Fundraising as an Operating System

Fundraising breaks down when it’s treated as a collection of activities instead of a connected system. In this session, we reframe fundraising as an operating system made up of interdependent parts—plan, outcomes, budget, team, and donors. You’ll see why events, appeals, and tactics fail when the system isn’t aligned, and how experienced donors actually evaluate readiness before making significant commitments.

The Board’s Role in Sustainability

Boards are essential to sustainability—but their role is often misunderstood. We clarify what boards are responsible for, what belongs with leadership and staff, and where confusion creates friction or avoidance. This creates shared expectations, reduces tension, and helps boards support fundraising without pressure, guilt, or unrealistic assumptions.

The Five Factors™ Framework

The Five Factors™—plan, outcomes, budget, team, and donors—are the foundation donors look for, whether they name them explicitly or not. We show how gaps in one area quietly weaken the others, and how misalignment shows up in stalled growth, fragile funding, or over-reliance on a few individuals. Participants leave with a clearer view of where their organization is strong and where structure needs attention.

What Sustainable Funding Requires

Sustainable funding isn’t driven by urgency or effort alone. It’s built on clarity—clear direction, clear roles, and clear signals to donors about capacity and readiness. We explore why clarity precedes revenue, how organizations move forward responsibly, and what differentiates stable growth from short-term wins that increase long-term risk.

What Comes Next

Insight without action creates frustration. This session closes by translating learning into focus. Using your organization’s Five Factors™ Assessment results, we outline how to prioritize what matters most right now and shape a realistic Board-Led Execution Roadmap—grounded in your context, capacity, and goals—so momentum continues after the session ends.
